Incensed over his controversial United States Title defeat to Shinsuke Nakamura this past Sunday at WWE Extreme Rules, Jeff Hardy kicked off SmackDown LIVE. Jeff admitted that he possibly wasn’t thinking clearly when he chose to start the match two days ago after Nakamura went low. The Charismatic Enigma promised he would be focused on two things tonight: Making The King of Strong Style feel as much pain as possible and taking back his United States Championship.

Coming in as focused as he promised, Jeff Hardy took the fight to Shinsuke Nakamura as he attempted to regain the United States Title in this WWE Extreme Rules rematch. With the playing field leveled (unlike Sunday), the Superstars exchanged stiff strikes at a dizzying pace to stake their claim to the title.

In the pivotal moments, Jeff seemed to have Nakamura down for the count after hitting him with a picture-perfect Swanton Bomb. However, outta nowhere, Randy Orton arrived, broke up Jeff’s pin attempt and started savagely assaulting him to give The Charismatic Enigma the disqualification win.

A wounded Hardy attempted to fight back, but The Apex Predator overwhelmed the former United States Champion, stomping his skull into the steel steps. Then, in a very disturbing scene, The Viper attempted to rip the piercing out of Hardy’s ear, extensively stretching his earlobe. The Viper then threw Hardy over the announcer’s table and continued the assault. WWE personnel ran down to try to stop Orton’s attack, but Randy concluded the beating by DDT’ing Hardy off the table, as Nakamura just watched on from a distance.

The four Superstars wasted no time getting right back into the thick of their conflict, with each clearly wanting to make a major statement ahead of their championship clashes on Sunday.

Jeff Hardy & AJ Styles caught fire during the free-for-all, but Rusev knocked Styles out of the ring with a Machka Kick, then leveled Hardy with a second one to claim a valuable win just five days before his WWE Title bout at WWE Extreme Rules.

With the Fourth of July just one day away, United States Champion Jeff Hardy issued the Independence Day United States Open Challenge to anyone on the roster… enter The A-Lister.

Yes, The Miz, who defeated Jeff Hardy to qualify for the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match in a barnburner last month, answered the call and took the fight to The Charismatic Enigma.

The Miz constantly attempted to ground Hardy’s aerial mastery, but The Charismatic Enigma battled back, and after the referee caught The Miz red-handed trying to use the ropes for leverage during a pinfall attempt, Hardy caught an irate A-Lister with a Twist of Fate and a must-see Swanton Bomb for the victory.

Jeff Hardy vs. Eric Young
With Shinsuke Nakamura unable to compete in his scheduled United States Title Match against Jeff Hardy tonight due to injury, the United States Championship Open Challenge was resurrected with Eric Young from SAnitY answering the call.

Hardy and Young went back and forth in an aggressive contest that saw The Charismatic Enigma have to constantly watch his back due to the presence of Young’s SAnitY cohorts, Killian Dain and Alexander Wolfe. However, the odds would soon be evened when The Usos, who were still furious over SAnitY’s ambush attack of them last week, hopped the guardrail and went after Dain and Wolfe at ringside. This brawl then spilled into the ring, with both Young and Hardy getting involved, which lead to a disqualification. However, even after the bell, all six Superstars continued throwing fists.

Jeff Hardy & The Usos vs. SAnitY
Because of the chaos that closed out the Jeff Hardy vs. Eric Young match, SmackDown LIVE General Manager Paige declared that the bout would be restarted as a Six-Man Tag Team Match.

With emotions running high, all six Superstars were relentless. SAnitY’s unpredictable attack kept Hardy & The Usos reeling, but the WWE veterans refused to stay down, firing back every chance they got. In the critical moments, The Usos eliminated Killain Dain with a barrage of superkicks and a massive dive, which allowed The Charismatic Enigma to hit Alexander Wolfe with a picture-perfect Swanton Bomb for the win in the impromptu Six-Man Tag Team Match.
