Jeff Hardy had caught wind that Samoa Joe wanted to “apologize” to him after The Samoan Submission Machine repeatedly mocked The Charismatic Enigma for his troubled past over the last few weeks. Hardy demanded Joe come to the ring to issue his “apology” face-to-face. Samoa Joe hit the scene and spoke openly to Hardy, but not with an apology — with an attempted intervention! Joe mockingly expressed concern for Jeff until the former WWE Champion lashed back at Joe, wondering aloud if Joe is insecure because he hasn’t won a single championship in two years. A seething Joe instantly looked to strike after Jeff’s disrespect, but Hardy was ready for him, and he dropped Joe with a Twist of Fate that downed The Samoan Submission Machine and kept him silent … at least for now.

Two of SmackDown LIVE’s budding rivalries — Jeff Hardy and Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev — crossed paths on Tuesday in a tag team match that showcased the best of all four Superstars, plus a Dance Break from Carmella and R-Truth that actually came at the beginning of the match rather than the middle. It also provided an early glimpse at where those two rivalries stand. Samoa Joe, who has chosen to play mind games with Hardy, remained in almost complete control of The Charismatic Enigma, save for a last-ditch rally. Rusev, meanwhile, bulldozed Nakamura all over the ring, eventually dropping The King of Strong Style with a pinpoint Machka Kick for the 1-2-3.

In the first Quarterfinal Match of the night, R-Truth & Carmella stunned the WWE Universe with perhaps the biggest upset in MMC history when they knocked off Jeff Hardy & Charlotte Flair to advance to the semifinals of the WWE MMC.

Highlights of the match included Hardy and Truth engaging in a couple of competitive dance moves, Carmella miraculously stopping Flair’s attack for a moment with her earth-shattering scream, Truth and Carmella avoiding a Flair/Hardy charge through the ropes in order to take a dance break, Charlotte and Hardy making them pay for it with a subsequent attack, The Queen mocking Truth with some dances moves of her own, Mella catching Flair on the top rope with her legs and hurling her to the canvas and Flair breaking up Truth’s pin attempt.

In the wake of his 20th anniversary celebration last week, a reinvigorated Jeff Hardy reignited his rivalry against Randy Orton one week after The Viper unleashed a brutal assault on Rey Mysterio.

Just after Hardy dropped Orton with a back suplex on the announce table and ascended the ropes looking to crash down onto The Viper, Samoa Joe suddenly appeared on the TitanTron from a bar, callously mocking The Charismatic Enigma and keeping him distracted long enough for Orton to level his opponent with the RKO for the victory.

As Hardy recovered, Joe added insult to injury be mocking Hardy with a “public service announcement” on the dangers of drinking in excess.

What’s the vibe as performers preparing for a live show like the one in Arlington instead on something televised or on the WWE Network?

Hardy: “The coolest for me is when I was, oh gosh, 7-10 years old – we were at a show in North Carolina – and Sting was coming out, this was an old NWA [National Wrestling Alliance] show, and I was able to touch his shoulder. And he had his face painted, his neon green tights on, and the blonde hair – and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I want to do that. I want to make somebody feel like he made me feel right now.’

“So, like this Sunday for example, I’ll be in the back painting up in whatever image I have in my head, and my thing is I hope a kid kind of feels the way I felt back then when they see me, especially because I come out like a zombie when my eyes are closed because I do the eyelids on my eyes and just the moment in itself – one photo is worth a billion words and feelings.

“So, I just hope I can make a kid feel the way Sting made me feel. That’s the funnest thing for me now at live events because there’s not a rush, there’s like a patience behind it – the painting. Just like when I’m painting canvas, I’m using my face. It’s very peaceful. And I just hope I can make that one kid each and every night feel the way I felt back then.”
