It’s a bird, it’s a plane…no, actually, that’s just Jeff Hardy you see flying through the air once again on Monday nights.
After three years away from the WWE spotlight, Jeff Hardy has made his return to RAW. And it wasn’t just any return either; when RAW fans saw him come through the curtain for the first time on August 21, he was heading to the ring to challenge WWE Champion. Hardy was victorious by disqualification, and the fans were once again amazed by Hardy’s signature high-flying, dare devilish offensive assault.
Jeff Hardy has always marched to the beat of his own drummer. He made his WWE debut in 1993 at just 16 years old, but it would be a few more years before he made a true impact. Jeff and brother Matt teamed up as the Hardy Boyz, and together they were known for their innovative high-risk offense. Together, they captured the World Tag Team Championship on five occasions, as well as the WCW Tag Team Championship in 2001.
Hardy is also a pioneer, as he was one of the six men that made the Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match famous. The Hardys and Edge & Christian had a long-running rivalry in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and it was a thrilling Tag Team Ladder Match against Edge & Christian in 1999 that vaulted both teams into prominence. When the Dudleys came to WWE it became a three-team rivalry that raged on for over a year, and SummerSlam 2000 is where the six men competed in the first TLC Match.
Jeff has been just as successful on his own as well. He has held the European, Hardcore and Light Heavyweight Championships, and also defeated Triple H in 2001 to earn a short reign as Intercontinental Champion. Hardy also came close to winning the WWE Championship on a few occasions, most notably in a nail biter of a Ladder Match against Undertaker on a July 2002 edition of RAW.
Now, Hardy is back after a three-year hiatus, looking to recapture that success. With his unorthodox and innovative offensive repertoire, he’s sure to keep the RAW Superstars off their guard.
