In the first Quarterfinal Match of the night, R-Truth & Carmella stunned the WWE Universe with perhaps the biggest upset in MMC history when they knocked off Jeff Hardy & Charlotte Flair to advance to the semifinals of the WWE MMC.

Highlights of the match included Hardy and Truth engaging in a couple of competitive dance moves, Carmella miraculously stopping Flair’s attack for a moment with her earth-shattering scream, Truth and Carmella avoiding a Flair/Hardy charge through the ropes in order to take a dance break, Charlotte and Hardy making them pay for it with a subsequent attack, The Queen mocking Truth with some dances moves of her own, Mella catching Flair on the top rope with her legs and hurling her to the canvas and Flair breaking up Truth’s pin attempt.

In the wake of his 20th anniversary celebration last week, a reinvigorated Jeff Hardy reignited his rivalry against Randy Orton one week after The Viper unleashed a brutal assault on Rey Mysterio.

Just after Hardy dropped Orton with a back suplex on the announce table and ascended the ropes looking to crash down onto The Viper, Samoa Joe suddenly appeared on the TitanTron from a bar, callously mocking The Charismatic Enigma and keeping him distracted long enough for Orton to level his opponent with the RKO for the victory.

As Hardy recovered, Joe added insult to injury be mocking Hardy with a “public service announcement” on the dangers of drinking in excess.

Jeff Hardy celebrated his 20th anniversary as a WWE Superstar, joining Michael Cole for an in-ring ceremony and an incredible video package highlighting some of the most unforgettable moments of his awe-inspiring tenure with WWE. The former WWE Champion, who has admittedly experienced an emotional roller coaster of a career, was overwhelmed by the enormity of the moment, and he thanked the WWE Universe for their unwavering support over the years.

Samoa Joe interrupted and initially acted as though he had arrived to praise the daredevil. Soon enough, however, it became crystal clear that The Samoan Submission Machine was there to conjure all of Hardy’s prior demons. Shane McMahon tried to stop Joe’s tirade, but Jeff wanted Joe to speak his mind. Joe spoke his mind indeed, stating that Hardy’s problems and mistakes are always lurking behind him, but he callously promised to lend a helping hand with a one-step program that is quick – but definitely not painless — if Jeff ever again feels himself becoming powerless.

An empowered Jeff challenged Joe to a fight on the spot, but The Samoan Submission Machine would have none of it, and he walked away while Hardy seemed unphased by the outspoken Samoan’s harsh words.

LOS ANGELES — With a Universal Title opportunity and grudge match against Acting General Manager Baron Corbin riding on the result, Braun Strowman was unquestionably the Superstar whose fortunes were most entwined with the outcome of the Men’s 5-on-5 Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match. Given all that, it was only fitting that The Monster Among Men almost singlehandedly won the contest with four straight eliminations — a feat that was doubly impressive due to the gritty performance by Team SmackDown … and some pointed tensions within Strowman’s own squad.

Strowman had made his distaste for all his teammates — Finn Bálor excluded — clear before the bell rang, and the feeling was clearly than mutual, especially between himself and Drew McIntyre. The Scottish Psychopath threatened to seize control of the match from the opening moments when he tagged himself in and scored a surprise elimination of Samoa Joe (the only Team Raw elimination not recorded by Strowman). That set off a chain of events that culminated in a brief throwdown between Strowman and McIntyre.
Shane McMahon elbow drops Braun Strowman through announce table: Survivor Series 2018 (WWE Network Exclusive)

Team SmackDown responded in opportunistic, and impressive, fashion. Rey Mysterio ousted Bálor after a dizzying back-and-forth. And the legendary luchador did his best to hold “The Almighty” Bobby Lashley at bay. The Miz called a surprisingly crisp game as Team Captain. Shane McMahon put his death-defying bonafides to good use with a Leap of Faith that took out both Strowman and the announce table, as well as a Coast-to-Coast that helped send Raw’s Dolph Ziggler to the showers.

It seemed, for a moment, like SmackDown had a puncher’s chance to outlast the red brand … at least until Strowman re-entered the picture. The Monster Among Men clotheslined McMahon clean out of the air on a second Coast-to-Coast attempt (this one to Lashley) and stormed back with near-immediate eliminations of Jeff Hardy, Mysterio and Miz. That left Shane, spent and sucking wind, as the last man standing for Team SmackDown. The SmackDown Commissioner refused to drop his hands, but even Shane knew he was destined to go down fighting. Strowman scooped him up for a Running Powerslam and put the match away in monstrous fashion, giving Raw a 4-0 advantage over SmackDown in the Survivor Series standings and effectively sealing the WWE fall classic for Team Red.

With that win, Strowman now has free rein to tee off on Corbin, but the Acting General Manager of Raw — who had been animatedly patrolling the outside as Team Captain —struck first, blindsiding Strowman before retreating up the ramp alongside Lashley and McIntyre. Their shared mocking of The Monster Among Men’s signature roar indicates that there might be a couple more people that Braun Strowman has to go through before he gets to Corbin. If Survivor Series was any indication, that won’t be a problem.

Prior to the second match of the night between undefeated teams, SmackDown General Manager Paige stated that AJ Styles was not going to compete following his WWE Championship loss to Daniel Bryan on SmackDown LIVE. As a result, Jeff Hardy subbed in as Charlotte Flair’s partner against defending Mixed Match Challenge winners and fellow undefeated team The Miz & Asuka. And The Queen and The Charismatic Enigma handed the WWE MMC teammates their first loss in two seasons!

Highlights included Hardy ramming Miz’s moneymaker into the turnbuckle numerous times with gusto, The Empress and The Queen renewing their rivalry and producing an intense back-and-forth, Charlotte taking Miz out on the apron (much to the approval of the WWE Universe), Asuka using that distraction to lock The Queen in a submission in the center of the ring, an all-out war between Hardy and Miz, and a series of double “It Kicks” by Miz and Asuka.

The A-Lister got too cocky for his own good and tried to show Asuka “how it’s done,” and Hardy made him pay for it with a Twist of Fate. Flair seized the moment, hitting Asuka with a Spear before locking her in the Figure-Eight Leglock and making her tap!

Next week, it’s do or die as the next phase of the WWE Mixed Match Challenge competition begins with Lana & Rusev facing R-Truth & Carmella. The winning tandem moves on, while the losers go home!
