Match of the year: TLC Match, SummerSlam

The TLC Match at SummerSlam barely edged out the Hell in the Cell Match at Armageddon for match of the year.

After the incredible Triangle Ladder Match at WrestleMania, many fans didn’t know if the Hardy Boyz, the Dudley Boyz and Edge & Christian could again rise to the challenge. They did all that and more. At SummerSlam, the six men made liberal use of tables, ladders and chairs in a match which was simply breath-taking.

Six other men — Stone Cold, Rock, Triple H, Undertaker, Rikishi and Kurt Angle — participated in the Hell in the Cell match at Armageddon, another match which produced its share of priceless moments. The most memorable moment came when the Undertaker threw Rikishi off the top of the cell!

Tag Team of the Year: Hardy Boyz

The Hardy Boyz continued to amaze World Wrestling Federation fans throughout the year with their high-flying maneuvers and incredible athleticism. The three-time Tag Team Champions won the belts twice in 2000 and were voted Tag Team of the Year by virtue of their success and their death-defying stunts performed night after night.

Matt and Jeff have been a part of nearly every memorable tag team match the Federation has put on, including the infamous TLC Match from SummerSlam 2000.

With the lovely and high-flying Lita by their side, Matt and Jeff are top contenders for the Tag Team Titles, as well as likely singles title holders.

Still in their early 20s, Matt and Jeff Hardy have a bright future ahead of them. If the year 2000 is any indication of what fans can expect from them in the future. The next couple of years should be exciting for both the Hardys and the fans of the Federation.

APRIL
April was one of the busiest months in World Wrestling Federation history, In addition to being the month of the granddaddy of them all, WrestleMania, April also played host to the Backlash Pay-Per-View.

In the main event of this year’s WrestleMania, Triple H fought off The Rock, Big Show and Mick Foley to retain the Federation Championship. Also on the card, Edge and Christian realized their childhood dream by defeating the Dudley Boyz and the Hardy Boyz for the Tag Team Championship.

Also in April, The Rock — with Stone Cold Steve Austin in his corner — defeated Triple H for the Federation Championship, Pete Rose gets stinky, Big Show goes Hollywood and more. Click the links above to re-live the month of April.

AUGUST
Tables, ladders, chairs and a love triangle straight out of a soap opera defined the month of August.

As the days of summer grew hotter, so did tensions between Triple H and Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley. In the center of their marriage difficulties was Kurt Angle. Though it seemed that there something more between Kurt and Stephanie, the two insisted that they were “just friends.” But that perception changed when on the Thursday before SummerSlam, Angle told Stephanie he really cared about her and kissed her square on the lips.

In the ring, Commissioner Foley announced the first-ever Tables, Ladders and Chairs match for SummerSlam, in which Edge and Christian defeated the Hardy Boyz and the Dudley Boyz to retain the Federation Tag Team Championship.

SEPTEMBER
For months, fans wondered who was behind the brutal running over of Stone Cold Steve Austin at last year’s Survivor Series. Finally in September, Stone Cold began to wonder himself. The Rattlesnake officially began his search for the assailant in September.

Also in September, Chyna appeared in Playboy, Eddie Guerrero proposed, William Regal taught etiquette, Kurt Angle put a lip lock on Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, the Hardys and Edge and Christian competed in a vicious ladder match, Val Venis turned to Right to Censor, Raven made his debut and more.
